IMPACT OF YUCCA SCIDIGERA ON LIPID PARAMETERS AND VISCERA BROILER YIELD

  Abstract

Subjet description: Following the ban of the use of antibiotics as growth promoters in feed for livestock, several alternatives have been proposed, the interest of which is to replace antibiotics with substances having no adverse effects on public health.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of supplementation of a plant extract based on Yucca schidigera on lipid profil of broiler chicken for a period of 52 days, a control group receiving a standard diet and an experimental group receiving in food a product based on this plant extract.

Methods: Our study was conducted on a set of 1200 day-old chicks. These animals were followed for 52 days and were divided into two groups (control and experimental) and compared for the lipid profil as well as viscera yield.

Results: A visceral weight significantly higher in the experimental group was observed. In addition, lipid profile obtained at the end of breeding showed a increase in the blood cholesterol levels in favor of the experimental group.

Conclusion: Yucca schidigera extracts could modify poultry growth and blood profile parameters.
