Résumé

Description du sujet.

IN VITRO EVALUATION OF ANTIFUNGAL POTENTIAL OF ESSENTIAL OIL AND METHANOLIC EXTRACTS OF ASTERACEAE ARTEMISIA ABSINTHIUM L.

 Abstract

Description of the subject. In order to search for an alternative to to pesticides because of their toxicity and their pollution, the use of medicinal plants, in the case the species Artemisia absinthium L. as the main source of new natural bioactive molecules has become indispensable.

Objective. As part of the search for natural antifungal substances, we have tested the fungitoxic effect in vitro of essential oils and extraits methanolic from Algerian medicinal plants.

Methods. The aerial parts of Artemisia absinthium L. were collected on march 2012 from Cherchell. This aerial part were subjected to the hydrodistillation using a Clevenger apparatus. The methanolic extracts were obtained by maceration by the Soxhle method. The composition of the essential oil was studied by GC-MS. The antifungal activity was evaluated using the agar diffusion method against four species fungi. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined using the agar dilution method.

Results. The essential oil was characterized as having a high content of β-thuyone (60.82%) followed by chamazulene (16.65%). The latter showed good activity against all tested fungi. Phytochemical tests show that methanolic extracts are rich in flavonoids, phenols. They have a fungicidal potential identical to essential oils

Conclusion. The essential oil and extracts methanolic of Artemisia absinthium L. growing in Algeria may be a potential source of natural antifungal agents in the chemical manufacturing industry in order to find possible an alternative to pesticides.
